Big task: the job of flying 454 staff from Visayas and Mindanao to Manila all on January 2.
As early as June 2011, Mervin Valdellon, admin. officer, started booking flights with the major local airlines: PAL, Cebu Pacific, and Airphil.
One week before the big event, eight buses
and two vans were hired to bring the staff from NAIA to the Tagaytay
Retreat and Training Center.
On the big day, an airport welcoming crew
of nine good-looking young men -- Mervin, Jonathan Balaoro, A.B.
Albania, Mark Rullona, Pastor Tyron Sarmiento, Miggy Pregoner, JM Zarate,
Lawrence Rizardo, and Jonah Bayno (all CCT staff too) -- were
stationed at NAIA's terminal 1 and 2.
Meanwhile, staff were checking in at
airports in General Santos, Bacolod-Silay, Iloilo, Roxas, Davao, Busuanga,
Puerto Princesa, Lapu-lapu City, Butuan, Cotabato, Dumaguete, and Cagayan De
Oro.
The first plane bringing CCT staff
landed at 7:30 in the morning. The last one was delayed and came in at 3:30 pm.
- On some flights 90% of the passengers were CCT staff.
- The January 2 flight to Manila was
the first plane ride for about 75% of the Visayas/Mindanao staff.
Praise God for His traveling mercies -- all staff arrived in
Tagaytay safe and sound, most making it to Tagaytay in time for the first afternoon session. The welcoming crew heaved a sigh of relief and a prayer of thanks to God as fears that this would be a logistics nightmare vanished -- the day at the
airport actually became the first getting-to-know you portion of CCT's 20th anniversary celebration.
